Eric Omondi to CNN: I was paid in sodas and food in my first gig

Comedian Eric Omondi has come a long way from just another broke kid to the top, Mercedes driving comedian he's morphed into.And the journey wasn't easy. At all."I started doing comedy at weddings and in churches. We were paid using sodas and food," said Omondi in an interview with CNN."Comedy has really evolved. That would be our pay, our contract. Then it moved to very little money. That’s why i think my heroes are the former comedians, the older guys, vitimbi crew (mzee ojwang, mama kayai, ngomongo etc) because they’re our freedom fighters.”Now considered the best comedian in Kenya, Omondi controls comedy in Kenya and all this changed after meeting fellow comedian Daniel Ndambuki popularly known as Churchill.Omondi is a role model to many upcoming comedians out there and his younger brother, Fred Omondi is also a talented comedian, who has carved a niche for himself in the flooded showbiz industry.Here is the full interview from CNN.
