The reason why Ruto's hotel wasn't closed by government despite shutting others due to cholera outbreak

The government has broken its silence on why Deputy President William Ruto's Weston Hotel was not closed after a cholera outbreak there.The hotel became the first of the three high end eating places to be hit by the deadly disease on Tuesday June 20 when more than 50 guests fell ill.They included several doctors who were attending a health conference when they contracted the disease after eating at Weston.While the government closed two top hotels, it skipped Ruto's forcing kenyans to question the move.The Ministry of Health in a series of tweets on Wednesday July 19 claimed the Weston food was outsourced thus the DP's hotel was not culpable."Weston incidence was as a result of outsourced food," said the Ministry.

Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu ordered the closure of Jacaranda and San Valencia hotels after the outbreak in Nairobi.Mailu said that many more hotels risk closure by the government after food handlers were ordered to acquire new certification within 21 days following increased cases of cholera outbreak within the country.Kenyatta National Hospital had received about 70 patients by Tuesday evening, some in critical condition and overflowing from the isolation of wards.A crackdown on illegal food vendors has also been launched and all food handlers are ordered to undergo medical tests as authorities battle the disease associated with poor hygiene and sanitation.
