A Decade After Immigrating to America From Kenya, Martin Mburu Voted Teacher Of the Year in South Carolina

Martin Mburu, a Kenyan immigrant in the United States, has been voted the 2019 district teacher of the year in Clarendon School District 1, South Carolina.Mr. Mburu, who relocated to the US a decade ago, will be contesting for the state of South Carolina teacher of the year at the end of the school year. He was named teacher of the year for his outstanding use of technology in the classroom and motivating his students.

Mr. Mburu employs green screen technology, animation, flipped classroom, 3D technology, podcasting, computer programming, virtual reality, and music videos to build a relationship with his students.For the state teacher of the year award, Mr. Mburu will be battling it out with 60,000 other applicants at the end of the school year.He studied special education at the Kenya Technical Training College, Egerton University as well as Kenyatta University.
