Here Are The 2 Kenyan Apps Making Kenyans Proud After Being Honored At Facebook’s Biggest Event

Two Kenyan Facebook Applications were among the top ten Africa developers to be honored during this year’s F8 Developers Conference held in San Jose, California, USA.The two include ‘Eneza Education’, an educational app and ‘Refunite’, a service that helps refugees to reunite with their families and loved ones.Launched in 2012, Eneza Education uses low-cost mobile technology to give users educational lessons and assessments using SMS, web and Android platforms.Refunite is a technology-based non-profit organization with projects in Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).It has also partnered with Facebook Free Basics which has made access to Refunite platform free in 14 countries.“We’re partnering with many African developers to launch products that not only meet the needs of their local markets, but which are also ready for the world stage,” Facebook’s Head of Platform Partnerships for the Middle East and Africa, Emeka Afigbo, said.F8, moved from San Francisco to San Jose, where Facebook saw close to 4,000 attendees.It tends to be more technically focused — it’s for developers, after all — and has traditionally centered around Facebook’s flagship service and Messenger. Other Facebook properties, like Instagram and WhatsApp and Oculus, aren’t usually involved.Other developers celebrated in the event include two from Ghana and five from Nigeria.“Events like F8 are a perfect opportunity for us to talk about how we will work with partners to do more with our platforms. As important, they are a forum for us to get feedback from our ecosystem and to showcase our partners’ work to the world,” Afigbo noted.
