A Kenyan In UK Jailed For 2 Years After Stealing From An Ailing Elderly Woman

A Kenyan woman has been jailed for two years after being found guilty of stealing millions from an elderly woman she had been hired to look after.Kisella Hillman, who is of Kenyan descent was supposed to take care of the 89-year-old-woman, because she had Alzheimer’s, and committed the offenses over the course of three months.Kisella claimed that she used the money to help support an orphanage in Kenya and paying for time at a recording studio, but her sentencing was unable to provide evidence of what had happened to the cash. The 27-year-old suspect had initially denied the charges of stealing Sh6.7 Million belonging to the elderly woman, Kathleen Brindle. Upon her arrest, she told the police the money had been given to her as a gift.Kisella was employed to take care of Mrs Brindle following the death of her son. With her mental health deteriorating, the lady was supposed to help her with shopping, lunch and social occasions, as well as making sure she eats and drinks. The withdrawals were spotted by an employee of the family after Hillman was fired for poor time keeping.Due to the victim’s deteriorating mental health, the lasting effects of the thefts had little effect on her. The Kenyan lady had no previous convictions and had previously been working for a Kenyan charity, with an exceptionally good character. The court however acquitted her of one charge of theft of £2,000 by abuse of position.
