Babu Owino: I was tortured at Pangani Police Station

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on Thursday told a court of law that he was tortured at Pangani Police Station. He accused police officers of sending street children to harass and intimidate him.Babu spoke on Thursday shortly after he was released on bond following the charge of causing grievous harm to a voter on August 8.He was re-arrested on Wednesday immediately after being released on bail on two more charges of subversion and incitement."Bwana Uhuru Kenyatta, kama umeshindwa na siasa na rika yako, kuja Embakasi East nikunyoroshe asubuhi na mapema."(Mr Uhuru Kenyatta, if you are unable to politick with your agemates, come to Embakasi East so that I can defeat you early in the morning)The controversial first time MP also fired his salvo at Nairobi governor Mike Sonko who earlier on Thursday gave him a dress down and warned him against insulting the President.Officers at the DCI headquarters were ordered to study the clip that captured the said utterances for possible action. Police re-arrested the MP moments after his release by a Nairobi magistrate court.Police said Mr Owino was to be charged with assault, an offence he allegedly committed when he was vying for the Students Organisation of Nairobi University (Sonu) chairman’s seat last year. The MP had just been released on a Sh500, 000 bail and two sureties of Sh1 million each. The MP is facing charges of subversion and offensive conduct as well as an alternative charge of incitement to violence.Babu said he will not relent in the struggle for democracy and good governance in Kenya and called on NASA supporters to heed Raila Odinga's call and participate in Monday's mass protests.Raila on Thursday said the countrywide demos which will be held on Mondays and Fridays are meant to denounce Jubilee's growing dictatorial tendencies."The power of the people is stronger than the power of the bullet. The power of the people is stronger than the power of the people in power like Uhuru Kenyatta."
