Chebukati to run to Lagos or New York this week and resign from there - Mutahi Ngunyi

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chair, Wafula Chebukati, will tender in his resignation this week, from a land far away just like commissioner Roselyn Akombe did, claims renown political scientist, Mutahi Ngunyi.Kenyans have exactly seven days to elect their President in repeat poll following nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta's reelection victory by Supreme Court in September.Taking to his twitter page, Ngunyi has claimed that following the events at the electoral body, Chebukati will follow suit and resign from either Lagos or New York.

He has publicly admitted that divisions were harming the agency’s operations. He warned that he could not guarantee a credible election without critical staff changes.Chebukati, who said he would not quit his job, asked both Jubilee and opposition coalition leaders to keep off Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) staff,  and told top secretariat managers who have been adversely linked to electoral malpractices to resign, to pave the way for free, fair and credible elections. He demanded that the commission should be left to operate independently. If the above conditions are not met, the chairman said, he will not be able to deliver a credible election.Critical changes “I am convinced that without critical changes in key secretariat staff, we may not have a free, fair and credible election,” Chebukati said at the Bomas of Kenya yesterday.
