Former TJRC chairman Bethuel Kiplagat is dead, Here is what killed him

The former chairman of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC), Ambassador Bethuel Kiplagat, is dead.Amb. Kiplagat, 81, died on Friday, July 14, 2017 at the Nairobi Hospital at 3 am where he had been admitted following a long illness.He served as the chairman of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) from 2009 to November 2010.This was before he resigned to pave way for investigation into past human rights abuses. The late was widely mentioned over his involvement in the Wagalla Massacre.The Commission was formed as part of the Truth and Reconciliation Act 2008 to establish the extent of injustices following the 207-2008 post election violence that saw thousands dead and hundreds of thousands more internally displaced.He becomes the fifth senior citizen to pass in under one month. The others include the lates: Laikipia Senator GG Kariuki (June 30), Retired Major General Joseph Nkaissery (July 8) and Nicholas Biwott(July 11).Apparently, majority of the above deceased were linked to the Wagalla massacre in one way or another but they all denied the accusations.The late diplomat served under Moi’s regime for over a decade, he was Kenya’s to United Kingdom Ambassador (1981-1983) and Kenya’s envoy to France in (1978-1981) before getting appointed as the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
