Kalonzo Forced To Explain After Foundation Accounts Were Frozen

National Super Alliance’s Presidential running mate Kalonzo Musyoka has spoken after his foundation, Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation accounts were frozen on Tuesday.In the letter dated May 2, the Board’s Executive Director Fazul Mahamed dissolved the entire Board of Directors of the Foundation and ordered the fund accounts frozen."The Central Bank of Kenya is advised to preserve all funds held at I&M Bank and/or in any other bank in Kenya under the name Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation until further communication from this office.”“The Investment &Mortgages (I&M) Bank is further directed that all the officials of the Foundation are not allowed to transact for and on behalf of the Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation in any of their accounts until advised by this office,” Mahamed stated in the letter.Kalonzo in a press conference in Karen on Wednesday, May 3, claimed the freezing of his account was political witch-huntWhile revealing that the Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation has helped over 2,000 people, he stated that no letter was received from the NGO Coordination Board, or any court order served on them.He absolved President Uhuru Kenyatta from blame but pointed an accusing finger at his Deputy William Ruto whom he accused of using the NGO Board to frustrate him.“If Jubilee has an enemy, it is this person because Kenyans can see through this victimization, political persecution. We have not been served with any court order; you cannot freeze accounts with no court order and even the money there is not a lot. This is terrible,” he stated.He also claimed that his foundation had little money and wondered how its accounts could be frozen for KSh 146 million that did not exist.In March 2017, the Kalonzo Foundation was also accused of lying in its financial records and failing to comply with audit laws.
