Kenya wins big at the World Travel Awards because of Masaai Mara

Kenya won big at the annual World Travel Awards Africa Gala Ceremony 2017, after Maasai Mara National Reserve was voted Africa’s leading national park.The Mara overcame fierce competition from Kruger National Park in South Africa, Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, Central Kalahari Game Reserve in Botswana, Kidepo Valley National Park from Uganda and Etosha National Park from Namibia during the Tuesday evening event in Kigali.At the same time, the pristine Diani Beach located in Kenya's South Coast was voted Africa's best beach tourist destination for the fourth year in a row after beating competition from beaches in South Africa, Mozambique, Zanzibar and Egypt.The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) on its part beat ten other tourism marketing agencies in Africa to emerge the winner for the sixth year in a row.Rwanda took the top title of Africa’s Leading Destination 2017 at the awards which was held in Kigali. Cape Town was voted Africa’s Leading City Destination 2017.In the aviation sector, Kenya Airways was selected by voters as Africa’s Leading Airline and Africa’s Leading Airline - Business Class, while Cape Town International Airport walked away with the trophy for Africa’s Leading Airport.World Travel Awards serves to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel, tourism and hospitality industry.Winners from the event will go forward to compete in the World Travel Awards Grand Final‚ this year taking place at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa in Vietnam on the evening of 10th December.
