Mandera bus attack film ‘Watu Wote’ Nominated For an Oscar Award

Watu Wote, a short film that chronicles the tragic Al-Shabaab Militant bus attack that took place in Mandera on the 21st of December 2015, has been nominated for an Oscar Award.The film which has already collected a bevy of awards including the 2017 students' Oscars award, was produced in 2016 as the graduation film for the Hamburg Media School master class program.Speaking to Standard Media in Kenya, one of the film’s liaisons in Nairobi stated that they were excited with the news and are upbeat after achieving the huge milestone.“This is historic, the nomination is a big deal and a huge nod for the actors, the film industry, and Kenya as a whole. We look forward to travelling to the award ceremony later in the year where we are hopeful that we will bring the Oscar home.”The 2018 Oscars, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be awarded Sunday, March 4. The awards are considered the most prestigious honor in the film industry.The awards are handed out in 24 categories, most of which contain five nominees. The two exceptions are the Best Picture category, which can have between five and 10 nominees and has nine nominees this year, and Makeup and Hairstyling, which has three nominees.
