Mpesa Hacked, Money Stolen

Ronnie Nsale is among several suspects arraigned in court on Thursday April 6 for trying to hack Safaricom systems and transferring money from Mpesa.Safaricom revealed one customer lost KSh 266,000 through an unauthorized SIM Swap, but that the company refunded the money.They are now giving police given 15 days to conclude investigations that has left Kenyans feeling rather terrified with questions whether their money is safe."Safaricom has foiled an elaborate cyber-crime fraud attempt to hack into its company systems.Safaricom’s Risk Management unit detected the intrusion and immediately escalated the incident to the security agencies."Safaricom maintains a state-of- the-art information security system which easily triggers an alarm if a breach is detected. This matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves.. I wish assure our customers that all their data is safe and we have no evidence of any money being removed from the system,” said Safaricopm CEO Bob Collymore in a statement.Just like 28-year-old Alex Mutunga Mutuku who was accused of stealing $38M from Kenyan Tax Authority, Nsale was living a flamboyant lifestyle putting it all on social media.Safaricom, however, didn’t reveal how many people have been arrested over the same nor their nationalities
