Police leave Wanjigi's house after Raila's arrival

Photos of reclusive billionaire, Jimmy Wanjigi, who is also the financier of the National Super Alliance, have emerged.Wanjigi posed for selfies with friends at his Muthaiga palatial home where he had been under siege for two days.Police left his home on Wednesday, October 18, after NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga arrived at the property.During the raid on Tuesday, the entrepreneur locked himself up in a secure bunker in his luxurious home located along Muthaiga road across the residence of the US ambassador. He emerged on Wednesday after a 36-hours standoff that saw officers confiscate some dreaded automatic rifles for which they claimed Wanjigi is not licensed to own.Officers were seen moving into the house with a toolbox and equipment including bolt cutters and sledgehammers, an indication that they intended to force their way into rooms they were unable to access.Head of Flying Squad Said Mohamed on Monday said detectives had gone after Wanjigi to question him over links to the cache of weapons; five AK-47 rifles and 93 rounds of ammunition that were recovered at a house in Malindi.Earlier, Wanjigi had sought to have Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett held personally liable for the various infringements and damage to his property. He sought anticipatory bail over any arrest and also wanted the High Court to stop the raid at his home in Muthaiga accusing the police of terrorizing and humiliating his family in violation to their right for privacy. The police issued a statement saying that the raids on Wanjigi’s homes were not conducted to intimidate the billionaire but for national security purposes.’The search launched on Wanjigi’s home is not by any means political. When you hear that illegal firearms have been recovered from anybody, it simply means that the person is a nefarious criminal who every law enforcement agent needs to go on overdrive, "Any gun outside here in the wrong hands is a threat to the security of each and every Kenyan.’’ said Eric Kiraithe, the government's spokesman.
