Raila to Kenyans: Maintain peace after the anticipated Supreme Court ruling

Raila Odinga has asked Kenyans to maintain peace during and after the highly anticipated Supreme Court ruling on his election petition. The Opposition leader and NASA presidential candidate relayed this message on Thursday through Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o.Supreme Court judges led by Chief Justice David Maraga have retreated to a secret location to write down the judgement which they will deliver on Friday, September 1.They, however, have to go through at least 70000 page documents to be able to draw their judgement.NASA strategist economist David Ndii hinted that should the decision go against them they will call for mass action.Raila said: "Whatever happens today, we are winners. Go to church and temples to give thanks to God."A soldier lives to fight another battle. Therefore, today the world is not coming to an end."This was part of the message Nyong'o read during the burial of Christabel Ouko, the widow of former Foreign Affairs minister Robert Ouko.Odinga and his running mate, Kalonzo Musyoka, filed a 25,000-page petition on August 18 alleging gross violation of election procedures and manipulation of figures in favour of the incumbent, Kenyatta.Nyong’o asked police to end brutality against communities perceived to be backing the Opposition."Luo lives matter and, therefore, they should be protected much like other citizens," he said."We have discussed the concept of security to ensure lives and property are protected," he said. "We don't want more deaths linked to brutality."
