The University of Nairobi has been closed by senate until further notice because of deteriorating security situation at the institution.“UON senate has today closed the University with immediate effect due to the deteriorating security situation. Students have been asked to vacate the halls of residence with immediate effect but not later than 9.00am,” read a tweet from the institution. The students had on Monday night gone on the rampage as they protested the invasion and assault by police last week.The Senate asked students to vacate the premises immediately and not later than 9 am on Tuesday, October 3.This news comes after University of Nairobi students poured out onto the streets on Tuesday, October 3, in fresh demonstrations in Nairobi’s Central Business District. Students blocked the Lower Kabete road to protest against police brutality in last week’s demonstrations and to demand for the resignation of Vice Chancellor Peter Mbithi.At least 27 students were Thursday injured when police invaded lecture halls and hostels and clobbered them to quell riots that were ongoing.
