SARAH Ikumu’s powerful, soulful voice shocked the judges on Britain’s Got Talent and prompted Simon Cowell to press his first golden buzzer of 2017.Sarah is a 15-year-old aspiring singer from Milton Keynes who is in year 11 and currently studying for her GCSEs.In today's semi final, the teenager belted out Prince's Purple Rain to get a full standing ovation from the judges. The panel had nothing but praise for Sarah but they won't be in charge of her fate tonight. This year there is NO judges' vote in the BGT semi-final results.Instead, the two acts with the highest votes from the public alone will go straight through to the final. However the ten finalists chosen by the public will be joined by a wildcard picked by the judges who will then go head to head in the grand finale. The Britain's Got Talent 2017 final is on this SATURDAY night, June 3The talented teenager was encouraged to showcase her voice to the world by her pastor father, Alex Gatoto, when he invited her to sing with the church choir at the tender age of five.Sarah was spotted by BGT scouts towards the end of last year, when she was performing at a local event. She was asked to audition on the show.Sarah auditioned for the show by singing a rendition of Jennifer Hudson’s And I’m Telling You.When judge Simon Cowell heard her sing the song, he was initially skeptical about her singing such a huge song, but he was completely won over as she showed off her soaring vocals. After slamming his hand against the buzzer, Simon told her: “Look, Sarah, I’ve heard this song a lot and it started off really well. I thought ‘This girl’s great.'  And then, it’s like you became possessed halfway through. It was quite incredible. And for someone of your age to stand on the stage with all these nerves and all this pressure, to absolutely – not just to nail this song, but you made it your song.” All of Simon’s golden buzzer acts have reached the final, and two of those were singing acts.

  1. In 2014 the music mogul chose Bars and Melody as his golden buzzer act, who manged to finish third place in the competition. They ended up signing a £500,000 record deal with Syco and released their debut album 143 in 2015.
  2. In 2015, singer Calum Scott wowed Simon enough in the auditions to get him to send him straight through to the live shows. Since then he has released his own cover of Dancing on My Own, which became the most downloaded song of the summer in 2016. He then went on to release single Transformar with Brazilian artist Ivete Sangalo as the official theme of the 2016 Paralympics.
  3. Last year Simon pressed his buzzer for Boogie Storm, a Stormtrooper dance act, who ended up bagging third place in the competition. They were snapped up by Syco Entertainment after the show.
