Shock as MP shows up for the swearing in ceremony with an oxygen tank

Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze carried an oxygen tank into the chambers for his swearing-in.Nyenze arrived at about 10am dragging the tank behind him, with the tubes snaking up his back.Elected leaders were sworn in to the 12th Parliament on Thursday, August 31, two weeks after the Tuesday, August 8, General Election.Parliament clerks swore in 290 Members of Parliament, 12 nominated parliamentarians and 47 Woman Representatives.With a gas line hooked up to him, Nyenze breathlessly persevered through his swearing in oath and returned to his seat escorted by a Parliament employee.

He looked frail and was limping but put on a brave face and greeted the battery of journalists at the entrance.

He said: "How are you are friends...mimi pia nimefika (I've also made it) for the swearing-in."
