Anger after Busia MCAs fly to Dubai on KSh 18 million trip to learn budgeting
A delegation of 15 people from the Busia County Government left on Monday for Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) amid uproar over mismanagement of funds by county governments. The fifteen, comprising nine members of the County Assembly, three technical staff, Head of County Public Service Board and Chief Officer Finance will be on a four day training on budget-making.Ahead of the departure, the Chairman of Budget and Appropriation Committee John Obwogo had refuted reports on the social media that the trip would cost Kshs. 53 million.According to Obwogo, the trip came after the MCAs were invited by their hosts in Dubai. He also claimed the hosts will meet the costs of training and other allowances which totals KSh 5.2 million. The latest is among the many controversies courted by MCAs in various counties in the country since the birth of county assemblies in 2013. Busia county is under the leadership of Governor Sospeter Ojaamong who was controversially nominated on an ODM ticket amid protests from former Funyula MP Paul Otuoma.
