Kenyans Take To Social Media To Prove Jubilee Government Created The Biting Maize Shortage

Maize flour has been a trending topic in Kenyan for the past month.Kenyans have been hard hit after the price of maize flour and other essential foodstuffs sky rocketed, the government has blamed the increase on drought that had affected the country since 2016.The price of milk is now at between KSh 65 and KSh 80, up from KSh 48, and sugar now sells for KSh 400 per 2 kg, up from KSh 240 range. The government promised to important maize from Mexico after Kenyans complained and the outcry forced the government to draft a supplementary budget bill which was quickly debated in parliament and passed. But Within three days of passing the bill, on Friday, May 12, a cargo ship docked at the port of Mombasa with 335,000 bags of Mexican maize and Kenyans are saying it was impossible for the ship to get to Mombasa that fast. The government has denied claims it is colluding with cartels to hoard maize, sugar and milk to raise funds for campaigns.A section of Kenyans has questioned the speed with which the maize was moved from Mexico in North America to Kenya and are insisting that it was a foul play from the government.Read the post below:
