Nyeri Man Leaves Kenyans Shocked After Attacking Wife And Baby for buying ‘Expensive’ Unga

A man in Nyeri has been arrested after he turned wild and attacked his wife and their two-year-old baby son.The shocking incident is said to have been caused due to an argument over the price unga.According to Daily Nation, the dawn attack occurred in the couple’s rented house in Ruring’u, Nyeri County. Wilson Kiguru Kamau is said to have attacked his family with a kitchen knife. Reports say Kamau accused Mercy Njeri, 28, of spending too much money on maize flour. It’s said the two argued all night about the issue as Kamua was fuming claiming that Njeri  over-spent. The argument ended and the couple went to sleep but on Saturday morning, May 13, around 5am, Kamau woke up and grabbed a kitchen knife and slashed the wife and child multiple times before fleeing.“He was asking for rent money but I had spent all my money on food since I am the breadwinner,” Njeri spoke from her hospital bed.Nyeri OCPD Muinde Kioko said the man was in custody and would be questioned before being taken to court, Daily Nation reports.“He turned himself in and reported he had killed them, which shows he had intention to kill,” said Kioko. Police said Kamau was likely to be charged with assault or attempted murder. The sky rocketing prices of basic food commodities in the country has left many Kenyans with no choice but to tighten their belts, literally.A bag is being sold at Sh3,000 to millers to address the shortage of maize and reduce the rising cost of essential commodities. The price of milk is now at between KSh 65 and KSh 80, up from KSh 48, and sugar now sells for KSh 400 per 2 kg, up from KSh 240 range.
