Magufuli bans Uhuru’s Brookside and 19 other Kenyan products from Tanzania

Brookside Dairy has been blocked from accessing the Tanzanian market a week after Foreign Affairs CS Amina Mohamed with her Tanzanian counterpart struck a deal to lift trade restrictions between the two countries. The two countries had banned importation of products into their territories, a move that had thrown relations between them into a spin.Following prolonged talks however, Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed and her Tanzanian counterpart Augustine Mahiga, jointly released a statement to announce they had reached middle ground.“The United Republic of Tanzania will lift restriction on milk and milk products and cigarettes manufactured in Kenya with immediate effect,” the statement read in part. The letter came a week after Tanzania postponed a planned meeting with Kenyan officials to resolve the dispute, insisting that the restrictions on LPG and wheat flour had to be lifted first.Other companies affected by the trade ban include another milk processor New KCC, cigarette manufacturer BAT, all the cement makers, Bidco Oil Refineries and Vivo Llubricants which markets Shell lubricant brands.Kenya had banned importation of cooking gas and wheat from Tanzania, with Magufuli's administration retaliating with a ban on exportation of milk products, unprocessed goods and cigarettes. The latest move has greatly threatened the co-existence and unity of the bloc as the two biggest economies in the region continue fighting.
