Waiguru summoned after gun drama

Kirinyaga county Jubilee governorship aspirant Anne Waiguru is once again on the spot following chaos that erupted in a rally as the campaigns hit homestretch.Waiguru's rally on Tuesday, July 25, in Kibingo Market was marred by violence, with her bodyguards forced to shoot to disperse rowdy youths. Three people were injured in the mayhem.Supporters of Kirinyaga Waiguru (Jubilee) on Thursday held protests in Kerugoya town after her campaign convoy was attacked at the Kibingo shopping centre on Tuesday.During the incident, her chief campaigner Moses Waweru sustained head and chest injuries. He is admitted at the Tenri hospital in Embu county.The protesters mostly women marched to Kerugoya police station demanding for the arrest of the perpetrators.More than 200 women participated in the demo.Kirinyaga DCIO said his officers are investigating the matter and the culprits will be brought to book once investigations are complete.The youths attempted to burn Waiguru's Toyota Prado vehicle but police fired in the air to disperse them.Her sound system vehicle was destroyed and is currently at the Kerugoya police station.''We have dispatched CID officers to Tenri hospital to record statements from Waweru, we are also calling on those who attended the rally to come forward and record statements to help with our investigations'' the police boss said.According to Kirinyaga county Police Commander David Kirui, Waiguru did not notify the police of the rally and they were forced to rush to the scene when they heard gunshots and saw people scampering for safety.Waiguru is seeking to become the first female governor in Kenya and latest opinion poll by Infotrak placed her at a poll position to clinch the seat.
