More police officers sent to Kerich-Kisumu road after heightened political tension

More police officers have been deployed along the Kisumu-Kericho border on Wednesday November 1, following attacks on vehicles belonging to the Wareng SACCO in Chemelil.Rowdy youths pelted the vehicles with stones in what is believed to be political animosity out of the divisive repeat election held on Thursday, October 26.Some passengers in the vehicles owned by Wareng Sacco sustained slight injuries during the 9am incident.Kericho base commander Michael Kahare and Kericho OCS Abduraham Mohamed had a hard time trying to clear the busy Kericho-Kisumu highway.Youths in Kericho town barricaded the road in protest against what happened at Awasi.They were heard warning that they would flush out members of a certain community from the town if Jubilee and NASA's political differences are not dealt with.

On Saturday, Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony met with his Kisumu counterpart Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o to discuss security issues after some voters were prevented from casting their ballot in Muhoroni, which is on the border.
There were reports that those who were prevented from voting were planning revenge.Matatu operators in Kericho were teargassed by anti-riot police when they protested the attacks by the rowdy youth.Wareng SACCO has suspended operations along the Kisumu-Eldoret highway until calm is restored.
