The surprising reasons why Uhuru Kenyatta skipped the debate

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday said he did not participate in the presidential debate organised by the media on Monday evening because it was a waste of time.Addressing at a rally during his campaign he claimed that NASA presidential candidate Raila did a below average job during the debate. He also added that he didn't see the need of debating with an individual who lacks an agenda for Kenyans. He added that he had “nothing to debate” with his opponent, National Super Alliance (Nasa) flag bearer Raila Odinga.

"Do you want me to spend my time responding to Raila or commissioning projects? I decided that he will debate alone because I have nothing to debate with him. I will not waste my time there,” he said.
The President was speaking during a campaign rally at Kiandu, in Nyeri County.“He changes his script when he is being watched by Kenyans but during his campaigns, he divides communities. No wonder I could not debate him. I did not go because it was a waste of time and I had nothing to debate with Raila,” said Uhuru as quoted in the Daily Nation. Kenyatta also explained that some organisers of the debate were against his election in year 2013.“Journalists in 2013 were not on my side and even this time if they refuse to support me, I won’t mind. My support is with 45 million Kenyans,” he said.He outlined the achievements of the Jubilee government and urged voters to turn out in large numbers and re-elect the government on 8th August.
